although he's the son of gods, hercules is partly mortal- thanks to the work of jealous god hades. raised on earth by a loving mortal family, he finally meets his father zeus, who tells hercules that for his own godhood to be restored, he must become a hero. zeus suggests a good trainer; the tiny but tough philoctetes.
