the web

Spiders.

I have found out that I do not like them very much, they creep me out.

One night I felt like something was watching me, looked up, and on the wall over my head was the largest spider I have seen or encountered.  My general rule is as long as they are out of arms length from me, they live.  In this case I couldn't.  I had to get rid of the nasty spider.

There is a spider in the jeep.  It continuosly spins a web over the dashboard and steering wheel.  I have not been able to locate it to exterminate.

I was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner when I saw a good sized spider crawling across the side of the refrigerator.  It had a very distinct white spots on its body.  It scared the hell out of me and I scrambled into the living room.  I searched the Internet to see what kind of spider it was.  The Phidippus Audax, a common jumping spider.  I went back into the kitchen to see if I could find it.  I did.  Crawling on my leg.  I screamed, swatted, missed.

Several days later I was riding in Shane's car.  We were picking up supplies and things for the move.  Guess what?  There was a spider with distinct white spots crawling up my leg onto my knee.  I screamed, tried to flick the damn thing out the window, but didn't succeed.  Frantically I searched the area to find the spider, found it on the floor, stepped on it.

Ick.  Spiders.

Factual Data

In the production of The Lion King on Broadway, 3000 stalks of grass are used for the Grasslands headdresses each year.

More than 30 tons of fruits and vegetables grown at The Land pavilion at Epcot are served in Walt Disney World restaurants.

At The Tower of Terror, the elevators don't freefall, they are actually pulled downward faster than the acceleration of gravity.  FUN!!!

Walt Disney World Resort is roughly the size of San Francisco at 30,500 acres.

Many of the faces of the pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean are modeled on those of the Imagineers (the park’s artists and engineers) who created the ride.  One face was modeled on Walt Disney’s.

During the production of Up, the Animation Department produced an average of 4 seconds of animation a week.

The fountain at Epcot Innoventions Plaza can shoot water 150 feet in the air, within 30 feet of the top of Spaceship Earth.  If all of the shooters were fired at once, there would be 2,000 gallons of water in the air.

Depending on the occasion, Mickey Mouse has 175 different sets of outfits ranging from a scuba suit to a tuxedo to wear. Minnie Mouse's wardrobe contains some 200 outfits including everything from a cheerleader ensemble to evening gowns.

farmers market

The farmers market has so much.  Fresh.  What do you get when there is so much to choose from?  Asparagus.  Strawberries.  Cherries.  When that's gone, more fresh fruits and vegetables await.  There were crafts, spices, candies, coffee, even a cafe offering breakfast and lunch specials.  It's open year round.  I'd rather buy from the local farmer's than from the grocery store anytime!

fast

Just like that it's June.  Sixth month into the year already.  Season of thunderstorms, hot weather, shorts, tshirts, flips, ice cream, festivals.  Season of job searches, lawn mowing, weed pulling, car washing.  Weekend was fast and furious, dining out, movie night, pancake breakfast, shopping, planting.  Every day there is something to keep me occupied.

grilling

The weather has taken a turn for the wurst.  Grilling weather.  Summerlike temperatures in the 80s, sunny, humid.  For those of you who aren't familiar, this is the kind of weather I thrive on.  I love being outside in the heat, sun.  Going for walks, enjoying the outdoors.  I have planted a small garden consisting of strawberries, green beans, and carrots.  This is my first foray into gardening.  Dinners have been made out on the grill.  Burgers, chicken.  Soon the freezer will be filled with things to grill.  Sitting on the patio in the evenings, enjoying the season.

Polynesian

Moai, or mo‘ai are monolithic human figures carved from rock on the Polynesian island of Easter Island, Chile between the years 1250 and 1500. Nearly half are still at Rano Raraku, the main moai quarry, but hundreds were transported from there and set on stone platforms called ahu around the island's perimeter. Almost all moai have overly large heads three-fifths the size of their bodies. The moai are chiefly the living faces (aringa ora) of deified ancestors. Though moai are whole-body statues, they are commonly referred to as "Easter Island heads".

stepping out

I did laundry yesterday, applied for jobs online, had a phone interview, and decided to get out of the house today.  The morning was overcast and cool, yet I wore shorts, the forecast called for sunshine and warm temperatures.  Headed to the mall, specifically the bookstore, met Doug for coffee, chat, and books.  I had to get the third installment of The Kingdom Keepers - Disney in Shadows.  I also got two cookbooks, one for slow cookers, one for soups off the bargain rack.  Tonight Shane, Doug, and I are having burgers (our alternative to Tuesday night chips, salsa, and margaritas.)  Tomorrow more job searching and stepping out if the weather is nice.

counted

Last week the notice came in the mail.  The census is on the way.  Today it arrived.   I want to be counted.  I want to be a government statistic.  That said, I haven't filled out the form yet, maybe later, maybe tonight, more likely tomorrow.  I'm more excited about The Princess and the Frog being released on DVD.  After dinner tonight, there will be a purchase made.  I can fill out the census form while watching the movie!

in effect

Snow.  A good three inches over night.  After I motivated and the flurries dwindled, I shoveled.  The plows came by as I was at the bottom of the driveway.  It didn't snow again until this evening.  Lake effect warnings until tomorrow morning, two to four inches.  Not liking that too much.  However, I did like my burger and fries for dinner.  Not liking that I'll have to shovel more.  Liking the exercise, just not liking exercising.

weather or not

Inches and inches of snow.  It is supposed to continue through tomorrow.  Lake Effect.  This morning the drive to the veterinary clinic was slow going, roads were snow covered.  Waffle is being spayed and declawed.  She is through surgery, doing fine, staying at the clinic overnight, get to pick her up tomorrow morning.  Driving through the snow again.  Since I was out, stopped at Target and Starbucks on the way back.  Home, shoveled, laundry'd, Scott stopped by and finished the work inside and out.  Time to touch up the paint on the walls.  Actually, time to shovel the drive again.

today is tuesday

It snowed today.  I had to shovel.  I am not complaining, it is exercise.  There wasn't a lot of snow, just enough to spend some time outdoors.  The groundhog saw his shadow in Pennsylvania.  Here he wouldn't have.  Winter is long enough, don't need an additional six weeks of it.  Spent time online.  Reading, surfing, applying.  Had the TV running.  Ventured out tonight for dinner, had grape margaritas, chicken burrito, cheese soup, chips and salsa.  The cats are talking and three shows recorded to watch, going to be a busy morning.

stacking animals

Opened the door to the safe room and let the kitty join the household.  She has been exploring.  The other two cats have been inquisitive and reserved.  There's been a lot of hisses, a lot of mewing, a lot of stalking, a lot of cat hijinx.  Fun, funny, and interesting to watch the dynamics.  MEOW!

waffling

This is Waffle.  She is about one year old, five pounds, six ounces and today she found a home.  She showed up on Shane's cousin Beth's deck about a week ago and has been living here ever since.  Beth didn't want to encourage the kitty, so she tried to ignore her, hoping she would move on.  Seeing her, how can you not want to hold her, pet her?  Waffle is a friendly kitty, purrs when being petted, loves getting scratched behind the ears.  A week later, we went and got her, took her to the vet, she's getting accustomed to her new home now.  Such a sweet, pretty kitty.

migration

Days are cold, filled with TV, Internet surfing, household chores, reading, day dreaming.  Settling into the Winter routine.  The mind travels to sunnier, warmer places, counting the days until spring.  It already the middle of January, soon it'll February, then March, then Spring and the thaw and a job and a new home, and a trip, and more books . . .

you have been warned

The lake effect snow warning continues until 4PM this afternoon.  Woke up this morning at an additional two inches of snow.  Yesterday had snow, just like the day before, and the day before . . . I think you get the picture.  Finally going to take down the decorations today, the tree is lit for one last day.  This evening going out for burgers and books.  I'll need books if I am going to be hibernating through winter and all these snow warnings.
